MIDGE URE - With a new album 'Answers', in 1989 Midge toured the clubs and theatre circuit with a young inexperienced band.

With a small but versatile set he toured the USA playing a mixture of old and new songs with a few ULTRAVOX classics thrown in.

Model of Answers set.

"The set had a number of goalposts, each supporting a painted roller blind. MR16s lit the upright pillars which were 8ft tall by 12ins wide. made from 1in thick MDF, the pillars were bolted to a 12ins square base plate and the top crossbar sat on top of the pillars. These could be moved around the stage area to suit the venue".

As each of the venues had an in house lighting system the design was able to adapt for the desired effects.

Where no lights were available in house, then they would be hired in using local companies.

"It had been a few years since I last toured, but touring with Midge was a great refresher. I'd toured clubs before but never in America. Every night I was using a different set of lights and some of the lighting desks were only just a few faders. Part of the excitement for me was being able to make the show work with little resources. After the first 3 month tour we had a six week break then supported HOWARD JONES on his arena and shed tour of the States. Even although we were the opening act I was able to set up my 'stage set in a box' and use a few par cans with colour changers and achieved exactly what we had set out to do".
