35mm from the Seventies

ALL IMAGES SHOWN ARE COPYRIGHTED to alanwildphotography.co.uk and must not be reproduced or copied in any way without prior consent or permission.

These images were shot during the Punk revolution.

As a teenager in 1976 / 77, Alan went to many of the gigs in Edinburgh. He would shoot off rolls of film and develop them overnight and then get the best shots off to the music papers by first post the next day. Some were used to back up articles in The Record Mirror, Sounds, Melody Maker or the New Musical Express.

On occasions he would be commisioned by Arista Records to cover the visit of artistes or their concerts.

Alan produced a huge catalogue of many Punk acts, from scores of concerts. Sadly, almost all the negatives were destroyed in a house fire in the mid Eighties.

This shot of Bob Geldof was taken after a press pit battle to get to the front of the stage.

Alan saw the band in the wings, preparing Geldof with a cardboard cross and got his camera ready. He may have been the only one who got the shot.

How fitting that Bob went on to Live Aid.

Alan was commisioned by Arista Records to cover a Patti Smith concert and poetry reading at the Edinburgh Odeon.

Arista bought all the negatives and this shot was used for the single cover.

The Valves

It all started with The Valves, a rythm 'n blues band from Edinburgh signed to Bruce Findlays' independant record label ZOOM Records.

Alan went to a Valves gig and shot off rolls of black & white 35mm film. He then met up with the band  one day at Bruces' office to show them the pictures. Two or three days later he was on his way to London with the band to cover their gig at The Chalk Farm Roundhouse. They all travelled in an old clapped out bread van with the equipment, an eleven hour trip.

It was a journey not to forget and opened the door to the music business......... for Alan to enter into. A world that would change his life forever.
